According to Digitimes, in view of the growing demand for AMOLED panels, China-based panel makers will set up new production facilities or expand existing facilities to meet the demand. According to Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA), eight production facilities will be completed or expanded by 2020.
The companies building new facilities or expanding existing ones are BOE Technology, China Star Optoelectronics Technology, Tianma Micro-electronics, EverDisplay Optronics (Shanghai), Kunshan Govisionox Optoelectronics and Royole.
According to PIDA, these eight production facilities will have a combined monthly production capacity of 335,000 glass substrates, which is equivalent to the annual capacity of 4.02 million glass substrates. However, the combined total capacity will still be far lower than Samsung Display’s forecasted annual capacity of over 100 million glass substrates by 2020. PIDA expects that Samsung Display will dominate global supply of AMOLED panels over the next 3-5 years.
