Canon Builds on Past Flagship

Canon is ending the year with a bang, announcing four new projectors with two different technologies.

The DLP models are the LX-MU500 (1920 x 1200) and LX-MW500 (1280 x 800), both with 5,000 lumens of brightness. Designed for medium and large venues, both feature an HDBaseT receiver and DICOM Simulation mode. They can also show 3D via DLP Link.

Differences are minor. The MU500 has a 2,500:1 contrast ratio and the MW500 has a 3,750:1 ratio. While both can throw a 60″ – 240″ image, throw ratio differences (1.07-1.71:1 for the MU500, 1.12-1.8:1 for the MW500) mean that projection distance is 1.38 – 5.54m and 1.45 – 5.82m, respectively.

The projectors use a 370W lamp, lasting 2,000 – 2,500 hours. They have a 1.6x optical and 2x digital zoom, manual focus and 50% – 55% lens shift (manual). Keystone correction is +/-30° horizontal and vertical.

MHL-HDMI, HDMI, mini-VGA (x2), S-Video, composite, USB-B, RS232 and RJ45 ports, as well as two 10W speakers, are featured. Measurements are 465 x 261 x 112mm, and the units weigh 5.4kg.

Canon will ship the MU500/MW500 in March, for $2,500 and $2,130, respectively.

Two other projectors were announced at the same time, which are variants on the WUX6000 LCoS model launched last year (Canon’s New Flagship Supports Flexible Installation). The WUX6010 is identical to the WUX6000, but features an HDBaseT receiver. Like the 2014 model, the WUX6010 is also available as the WUX6010 D, which has a DICOM Simulation mode. These projectors will be on sale in January, for $5,500 (WUX6010) and $6,150 (WUX6010 D).
