A US start-up, Caavo, has begun shipping its unified TV box, with an initial limited run of 5,000 units. The box combines live TV, DVR and streaming apps, Ultra HD resolution and universal search capabilities, plus voice control and support for Amazon Echo. The device enables users to switch between devices, including cable or satellite, streaming boxes or sticks, gaming consoles, DVD and Blu-ray players. It’s compatible with both wired and wireless internet connections.
The deluxe Caavo set includes a customisable top cover, available in three different wood finishes, plus cloth-covered HDMI and Ethernet cables, an HDMI extender, IR accessories and an unlimited lifetime service package. The company has stated that more units will be available for pre-order once this initial 5,000-unit run has sold out.
Analyst Comment
The company was started by a Slingbox founder, an exec from Microsoft and has Sky and Time Warner among its investors, so looks like a bit more than a typical Kickstarter project. (BR)
