Aluminium construction company, Boldman, is seeing increasing adoption of its frames for large-scale LED screens. Work was recently completed on a 13.9m x 7.8m x 0.6m framework for a screen (10mm pixel pitch, 6,000 cd/m²) in Manchester, UK. It was manufactured using an Oblik spaceframe structure framework, built from 156 individually-fabricated aluminium sections. It is the largest of its kind, weighing 5.5 tonnes – but is lighter than the alternative, steel. This was important, as the assembly had to be attached to Manchester’s Printworks – a Grade 2 listed building.
