BlackBerry Passport Sells Out

The Taipei Times reports that in a recent interview with John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry, he said that supplies of the new Passport smartphone have sold out, demonstrating the phone’s popularity.

According to the article, BlackBerry sold 200,000 units within six hours of its release. It also states that BlackBerry sold 13.7 million units in 2013 compared to 52.3 million units in 2010.

BlackBerry focuses on the business sector which uses the phone as a tool and not as an entertainment device and which BlackBerry believes accounts for 30% of the existing smartphone market.

The new Passport could be seen as a phablet based on its appearance and width, even though the 1440 x 1440 display has only a screen diagonal of 4.5″. – Norbert Hildebrand
