The global automotive display market is undergoing a fundamental transformation as manufacturers increasingly adopt premium display technologies, driving revenue growth despite stable unit volumes. According to new research from Omdia, display panel revenues are projected to reach $13.6 billion in 2025, representing an 8% YoY increase, with the market expected to grow to $18.3 billion by 2030.

The revenue growth stems from rising adoption of LTPS TFT LCD and OLED panels, which command higher average selling prices than traditional displays. By 2025, LTPS TFT LCD will capture 45% of the total automotive display market while OLED accounts for 9%, marking the first year these premium technologies will exceed 50% of total revenue combined.
Traditional amorphous silicon (a-Si) TFT LCD panels will see their revenue share decline from 48% to 44% in 2025, with projections showing a further drop to just 21% by 2030.
LTPS TFT LCD panels offer superior resolution, brightness, and power efficiency compared to traditional displays, with enhanced touch panel integration—benefits particularly valuable for the expanding electric vehicle segment. The technology is gaining traction in center stack displays, instrument clusters, and dominates the head-up display (HUD) segment due to its brightness capabilities.
OLED technology leverages its thin profile, high contrast ratio, efficient power consumption, and support for free-form designs to expand across center stack, instrument cluster, and passenger displays.
Omdia forecasts LTPS TFT LCD will become the mainstream automotive display technology, with revenue share surpassing 50% by 2028. OLED is expected to dominate high-end automobile cockpits, exceeding 20% revenue share in 2028. Looking ahead, transformable Micro LED displays are anticipated to enter the automotive market after 2028.
The market transformation is driving strategic pivots among display manufacturers. Panel makers including AUO, BOE, ChinaStar, Japan Display, Innolux, Sharp, Tianma, and LG Display are aggressively expanding into automotive as LTPS TFT LCD retreats from smartphones.
Meanwhile, leading OLED manufacturers Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE are developing new tandem RGB OLED designs to accelerate their automotive presence while maintaining smartphone dominance.
“While LTPS TFT LCD is retreating from the smartphone display market, panel makers such as AUO, BOE, ChinaStar, Japan Display, Innolux, Sharp, Tianma and LG Display are aggressively expanding into the automotive segment in pursuit of higher value and revenue,” said David Hsieh, Senior Director for Display, Omdia. “Conversely, as OLED continues to dominate in smartphones, leading OLED manufacturers like Samsung Display, LG Display and BOE are developing new tandem RGB OLED designs to accelerate their presence in the automotive space. The combination of display manufacturers innovation and intense OEM competition will be the key drivers of LTPS and OLED dominance in the automotive display market going forward.”
