AUO, Samsung, Sharp Expect 4k Handset Panel Orders

Taiwanese sources report that five of the major Chinese handset companies have placed orders with AU Optronics (AUO) for UltraHD panels, with mass production expected to start by the end of this year. Although unconfirmed, Xiaomi, Huawei, Coolpad, ZTE and Lenovo currently represent around 50% of AUO’s revenue from handset sales. Sources added that Samsung Display is also considering producing UltraHD OLED panels for phones in the second half of the year, and Sharp is expected to produce 4k IGZO handset panels this year.
