After starting mass production of AMOLED smartphone panels in August 2014, AU Optronics subsequently moved to wearable and VR panels, due to low yields from its Gen 4.5 fab. According to online sources, AUO’s production yields have improved, allowing it to reduce display prices. Although the websites identified a 4.97″ 720p on-cell touch AMOLED as being back in production, AUO confirmed to us directly that the older panel is no longer being supplied but that it is supplying a 5.5″ FullHD panel.
