AUO Brings LTPS and AMOLED to Touch Taiwan

At Touch Taiwan this year (24th-26th August), AUO is showing both large and small panels, with highlight technologies including fast refresh rates, narrow borders and AMOLED.

LTPS technology is being used in smartphone and notebook panel applications, with high resolutions and narrow borders. One of the products is a 5″ 1920 x 1080 AHVA smartphone display with 0.4mm borders, a high aperture ratio and an ‘ultra-slim’ backlight module: the entire panel is 0.9mm thick.

Another mobile LTPS panel is a 6″ device with in-cell touch and 2560 x 1440 resolution (491 ppi). It is shown alongside the LTPS notebook panel: a 13.3″ UltraHD unit, with a density of 332 ppi and 1mm borders. The panel is 2mm thick.

In the gaming space, AUO is showing a 17.3″ panel (2560 x 1440) with a 120Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time. Another panel of the same size is nearby, with UHD resolution.

Automotive panels are also present; the standout model is a 25″ ultra-wide display with a 16:3 aspect ratio (3840 x 720). It is a curved LCD model. An AMOLED panel is being shown as well: a 12.3″ 1920 x 1080 component, with 100% NTSC coverage.

It is not only the automotive space that contains AMOLED panels, however. AUO is showing units for wearables; primarily smartwatches and VR headsets. These include 1.5″ and 1.6″ square and 1.2″ and 1.4″ circular designs for watches, and a 3.8″ display (423 ppi) for headsets. The headset display is designed to be used as part of a pair, for a total resolution of 2160 x 1200.
