Japanese semiconductor technology firm Athene has developed a new fine metal mask (FMM) technique, specifically for high-precision OLED production.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, the new mask is both stronger and more durable than others. It was developed by adding nickel and iron materials to the standard metal mask. This development enabled it to withstand temperatures up to 100 deg without deformation (the majority of masks today can reach 60 deg ). Athene says that it can be used to produce 500ppi and higher OLEDs.
A new line in Fujisawa City, to produce the new masks, is planned. Deliveries to OLED makers will begin in 2015.
