Asustek reported a strong performance in Q4, driven by steady demand for its smartphones and notebooks. The company’s turnover for the quarter rose 5.4% year on year to NT$137.7 billion ($4.4 billion), taking turnover for the year to NT$477.2 billion ($15.2 billion), broadly flat from 2013.
Asustek shipped eight million smartphones in 2014 and has said it is confident of doubling its smartphone shipments in 2015 and making the business profitable. Reports suggest that China and North America will be key markets for Asustek in 2015, though it faces strong competition from companies such as Samsung, HTC and Sony, as well as local vendors including Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo and ZTE,
