Asustek Sees First Profit from Smartphones

Asustek Computer shipped over 1.5 million smartphones in May, generating a profit for the company for the first time, and says it expects shipments to exceed two million in June. The company reported sales in May of NT$33.7 billion ($1.1 billion), down by 8.6% from a year earlier but just under 2% higher than April. In the first five months of this year, the company generated sales of NT$178.6 billion ($5.7 billion), down 1.6% from the same period last year.
