Asustek’s April Sales at Two Year Low

Asustek’s April sales were at the lowest monthly level that the company has experienced since May 2013. Last month’s result was down 21.6% sequentially and 4% year on year at NT$33 billion ($1.1 billion), taking the total for the year to date to NT$144.9 billion ($4.7 billion), broadly unchanged from a year earlier. The company said that the drop in sales was mainly because notebook and tablet shipments were short of expectations.

Asustek reduced its sales and smartphone shipment forecast for the current quarter citing weaker-than-expected PC demand from Europe and a technological problem with its handsets. Sales are expected to be flat at NT$112 billion ($3.6 billion) while smartphone shipments are likely to decline to four million units from the firm’s previous forecast of five million.

The company also said it expects to ship five million PC related products, down 5.4% from last quarter’s 5.4 million units, while notebook shipments are likely to decline by 6.2% to 4.5 million units.
