Asustek announced this week that its net profit in Q3 reached its highest level since the first quarter of 2013, thanks partly to better-than-expected smartphone shipments.
The company’s net profit in Q3 was NT$5.8 billion ($189.6 million) on turnover of NT$113.5 billion ($3.7 billion), which was 19% higher than Q2 and 6% up on the third quarter of 2013. Asustek shipped 5.1 million notebooks and 2.5 million tablets during the quarter, in line with its original targets, while shipments of smartphones beat an original estimate of 2.6 million units by 200,000 units. In Q4, Asustek expects to ship 5.5 million notebooks, 4 million smartphones and 2.8 million tablets.
Asustek also performed strongly in October, with sales rising 12% both month on month and year on year to NT$46.5 billion ($1.5 billion), taking sales so far this year to NT$386 billion ($12.6 billion), up 3.2% compared with the same time last year.
