Asus Begins Skylake/Windows 10 Rollout

A host of new notebooks has been introduced by Asus, beginning with three models in the X Series: the X456, X556 and X756 (14″, 15.6″ and 17.3″, respectively).

Each of the new products features Asus’ EyeCare technology, which reduces blue light output by up to 33%. They also feature the ability to adjust colour temperature, and have three optimised modes: Vivid, which enhances contrast for photo and film viewing; Normal, for daily use; and Manual, for advanced user adjustments.

The notebooks run Windows 10 on an Intel Skylake processor and feature Nvidia Geforce 940M GPUs. Asus has built in its ‘IceCool’ technology, which prevents heat build-up underneath the palm rest by moving heat-generating components to other areas of the chassis. Additionally, the notebooks use lithium-polymer batteries, rather than lithium-ion; Asus says that these can stand up to 700 charge cycles: up to 2.5 times more than li-ion.

HDMI, VGA, USB-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and RJ45 ports are featured on each unit.

In addition to the above models, Asus has announced new high-end N Series laptops, in 15.6″ (N552) and 17.3″ (N752) sizes. They feature UltraHD displays, IPS panels and low blue light output. In addition, the display mode (Vivid, Normal, etc) will be automatically chosen based on the content being shown.

The IPS panels used in the N Series notebooks provide 178° viewing angles. Colour gamut coverage is 100% sRGB, 72% NTSC and 74% Adobe RGB.

Like the X Series, Windows 10 runs on Intel Skylake processors in the X Series. These models feature Nvidia GTX 960M graphics, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and SSD storage (up to 512GB).

So far Asus has no launch date for the notebooks, although thinks that they are likely to be launched in Q1’16 in Europe.
