Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. posted Q2 net profits of ¥30.3 billion ($243 million), compared with a loss of ¥2.0 billion ($16 million) in the same quarter last time, on revenue which rose to ¥333 billion ($2.67 billion) from ¥330 billion ($2.64 billion). For the half year there were profits of ¥35.4 billion ($284 million), up from ¥6.1 billion ($49 million), on turnover which slipped to ¥658.6 billion ($5.27 billion) from ¥659.2 billion ($5.28 billion). The company said that shipments decreased in Japan/Asia due to a backlash against last-minute demand before the consumption tax increase in Japan, but elsewhere shipments were strong and the firm is seeing increased profitability.
