A product announcement by French firm Archos has provided a hint at when Windows 10 Mobile might be available.
Archos will launch the 50 Cesium and 50e Helium smartphones this year, in November. Although identical in terms of hardware, the phones are differentiated by their operating systems: the Cesium runs Windows 10 (although we must point out that Archos does not specifically say that it is the Mobile version of the OS), while the Helium runs Android 5.1.
As with other handsets from the company, both new models will be low cost units: £85 ($130) each, ex VAT. Both are 8.5mm thick, with 5″ displays and 1280 x 720 resolution. They use a quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor (1.1GHz), with an Adreno 304 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
Archos also announced a new phone in its Diamond line: the Diamond S, a more premium unit that will cost £135 ($210) ex VAT. It will be launched at the same time as the Cesium and Helium phones. Rather than LCD, the Diamond S uses AMOLED technology for its 5″ display (1280 x 720), protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Android 5.1 runs on an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU from Mediatek, with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a Mali T720 GPU.
All new phones will be shown at IFA in September.
