Apple is reported to have acquired German virtual reality start-up Metaio. The company currently makes a number of SDKs and toolkits that help to create augmented reality apps and has created a holodeck-style game with an iPad. Metaio’s software is used in applications in retail, industrial and automotive markets.
Apple has not confirmed the acquisition, saying only that it buys smaller technology companies ‘from time to time’. However, according to a document filed with a Munich court, Apple is now Metaio’s sole shareholder.
