TrendForce has jumped in with its view of the global AMOLED smartphone panel market and it expects significant growth in the coming years. TrendForce projects that AMOLED smartphone panel shipments will surpass 840 million units in 2024, a 25% increase from 2023. Shipments are projected to exceed 870 million units in 2025, reflecting a YoY increase of 3.2%.
Korea’s display industry has traditionally dominated the AMOLED supply chain, with strong its ties to Apple and the presence of Samsung’s own smartphone business. However, Chinese manufacturers, such as BOE, Visionox, Tianma, and TCL CSOT, are rapidly expanding their market presence, especially in the production of flexible AMOLED panels. The leader of the pack, BOE, has shipments forecasted to reach 130 million units in 2024, including a volume of shipments to Apple for the iPhone 16 series.
Chinese panel makers are projected to account for 47.9% of global AMOLED smartphone panel shipments in 2024, with this figure potentially surpassing 50% by 2025, overtaking their Korean counterparts.
