According to a report by Recode, the Amazon video app will be supported by Apple TV this summer. Apple TV has Netflix, HBO, YouTube, and most other global and local apps but not Amazon Prime. Analysts believe that Amazon Prime is the world’s second-largest video subscription service behind Netflix.
Originally, Amazon wanted its movie store to be on Apple’s tvOS and iOS, but did not want to pay a 30% fee on sales to Apple. In response, Amazon removed Apple TV from shelves in October 2015, the same month that Apple TV4 with tvOS was launched. Due to this, Apple and Amazon have had a strained relationship for years, but it now appears that the parties are close to an agreement.
Apple TV4 has been on the market since late 2015 and rumour has it that a new version with 4K and HDR is coming soon. So, it appears that Apple is currently on the lookout for partners to deliver movies and TV series in 4K and HDR quality and Amazon is one of the few that can deliver this.
