Although it got the size wrong, the Wall Street Journal was correct in the pricing of Amazon’s newest tablet ($50 Tablet Incoming From Amazon). The 7″ Amazon Fire is a very low-cost model – with a ‘buy five, get one free’ incentive to encourage bulk buying.
The new Fire tablet runs on a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, with a claimed battery life of seven hours. The display, says Amazon, is ‘the best…of any tablet in its price class’. This may not be difficult, considering the lack of tablets available for $50, but the panel quality is at least higher: IPS (1024 x 600), rather than TN.
Durability is claimed to be almost double that of the iPad Air 2 (1.8 times, to be exact). The tablet has 8GB of storage (expandable via microSD) and WiFi connectivity. It is on sale now.
