Acer saw sales for October drop 9.25% sequentially to NT$28.2 billion ($921.6 million), though this was slightly higher year on year. Sales for the period from January to October were 9.5% lower than the same period of 2013 at NT$272.4 billion ($8.9 billion).
The company has also released its third quarter results, recording its third consecutive profitable quarter as the company’s new management team continues efforts reduce operating costs. Acer posted a net profit of NT$651 million ($21.3 million) on turnover of NT$85.7 billion ($2.8 billion), which compares with a net loss in Q3 of last year of NT$13.1 billion ($428.1 million) on turnover of NT$92.1 billion ($3 billion). For the period Q1 to Q3, Acer’s net profit was NT$1.1 billion ($35.9 million) on turnover of NT$243.7 billion ($7.9 billion), while for the same period in 2013 Acer recorded a net loss of NT12.9 billion ($421.5 million) on turnover of NT$273.5 billion ($8.9 billion). According to IDC, Acer’s Q3 PC shipments grew 13% year on year, in contrast to the overall industry decline of 0.5%. Acer said that its achievement in Q3 was the result of a good product mix, new product announcements and back-to-school demand. In Q4 Acer expects the seasonal promotions among its regions to continue the steady growth momentum.
