Acer saw sales in August increase 18.9% from July and 5.2% from August 2013 to NT$29.8 billion ($984.4 million), taking sales so far this year to NT$213 billion ($7 billion), though this was 11.4% lower year on year. The company is aiming to ship 4-5 million smartphones this year and 10 million in 2015 and is focusing on marketing smartphones in emerging markets, where demand for entry-level and mid-range devices is still growing.
Asustek also reported increasing sales last month, rising 4.9% sequentially and 3.1% YoY to NT$42.1 billion ($1.4 billion), thanks to an increase in shipments of both notebook PCs and handset. Sales fro the January to August period reached NT$297.8 billion ($9.8 billion), 2.5% higher than the same period of last year. Revenue for the company’s Asus brand reached its highest level this year, at NT$38.7 billion ($1.3 billion), 5.3% higher than both the previous month and August 2013.
