Shanda, a Chinese manufacturer, has unveiled two smartwatches with battery life of up to a week.
Using a hybrid screen, which switches between (transflective) LCD and E Ink modes, the Geak Watch 2 and Geak Watch 2 Pro support up to six or seven days of normal use, respectively. In standby mode, using only the E Ink display, their batteries will last for between 15 and 18 days. Users can switch between the display modes by pressing the power button.
Shanda used the same technique on its first smartwatch, the Geak Watch, which could last for between 10 and 15 hours.
The Geak Watch 2 Pro has a metal bezel, heart rate monitor and voice assistant. Both watches feature a circular 1.26″ display with 320 x 320 resolution (254 ppi) and are charged using a magnetic cable. The display is covered with Asahi’s Dragontrail glass. Android 4.3 drives the watches, which feature 384MB of RAM and 2GB of storage.
Pre-orders are available in China now, with delivery scheduled for December. The Watch 2 costs CNY1,710 ($280) while the Pro version costs CNY2,135 ($350) ex VAT.
