Amazon already has its own set-top box (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 14), but is now challenging the growing streaming stick market with the Fire TV stick. Streaming OTT services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video, the stick has 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, compared to Chromecast’s 2GB and 512MB. 1920 x 1080 output is supported, as is Android mirroring. It uses a dual-core processor and Whispersync technology; this allows a user to begin watching content on one device and pick up at the same point on their TV. The stick will be available on 19th November, for $40.
