What They Say
In its weekly release DSCC on its blog detailed some of the elements of its latest TV Cost Report. The article highlights that LGD has been reducing cost for its OLED in China and the firm believes that the cost of 48″ and 65″ panels will be 13%-14% cheaper in Guangzhou. It also said that 48″ panels are now at lower cost than 55″.
The article also compares its forecast for miniLED LCD to OLED cost and showed that 65″ miniLED has a 2% advantage compared to WOLED in 2021 but this will widen to 15% as miniLED is expected to decline in cost faster than OLED. Having said that, the firm highlights that there are a wide range of options for miniLED designs. DSCC also has a report on that topic.
What We Think
Initially, there wasn’t much of a cost saving for 48″ WOLED, and LGD introduced it mainly to meet the demand of European and Japanese brands for smaller sets, even if they were not usefully cheaper. Still, better costs will help LGD to boost its sales to match the increasing output of OLED panels. (BR)
