Light Field Lab has raised $7 million in seed funding for its holographic display technology. Khosla Ventures, Sherpa Capital and R7 Partners have made investments in the technology, which is designed to show holographic objects in real-life environments without the need for wearable accessories like headsets and glasses.
The technology claims to blur the lines between illusion and reality. Jon Karafin, CEO of Light Field Lab, likened it to Star Trek’s holodeck. “The initial modules are 15.2cm by 10.2cm, and they can project images into a 3D space,” he said. “The production modules will be something like 0.6m by 0.6m and they will have a resolution of 16K by 10K, far more dense than the 4K, two-dimensional screens we use today in high-end TVs”.
