KDX is introducing Simulated Reality at CES

KDX, the leading glasses-free 3D company, is introducing Simulated Reality (SR) at CES 2018 recognizing the change taking place in immersive computing.

While VR/AR/MR are contributing to this trend, our vision is to experience sight and sound indistinguishable from reality, without limitations, as the ultimate form of immersive computing. This is what we call Simulated Reality. The Simulated Reality Alliance is supporting this vision, with several technology companies joining forces to establish it. According to Maarten Tobias, CEO of Dimenco (a fully owned KDX subsidiary) “When it comes to shared experiences, simulated reality will eliminate our limitations. Time, location and budget will no longer restrict what we can do. We make the impossible possible”

What is Simulated Reality?

We’re moving from the age of information to the age of experience. And simulated reality will help take us there. This technology will activate all senses; it will interact with you and the environment. Objective and virtual reality will merge with artificial intelligence, creating rich experiences that feel natural and authentic.

What if you could recreate the experience of a face-to-face conversation? Of sitting on the same park bench, feeling the same breeze, hearing the same background noise, smelling the same cup of coffee… Without ever leaving your living room? What if you could touch someone or interact with objects using your real hands, instead of a virtual version? As Anders Hakfelt, VP Product and Marketing, at Ultrahaptics explains: “We see that our haptic technology has a crucial contribution to make to a fully immersive experience. That’s why we are thrilled to be part of this initiative.”

That is the ultimate simulated reality we are working on and the SRA is developing the technology to make it happen. The roadmap towards a full SR experience has already started, for example with the upcoming Samsung – glasses-free 3D consumer laptop which used our technology.

Levels

Simulated Reality is no longer science fiction it can now be part of our lives. We have defined multiple levels of SR on a roadmap towards the ultimate SR, which is level five -Full Simulated Reality that can be envisioned as the Holodeck, combining different environments and participants never before possible. Showcasing a Level 1 SR prototype at CES, we are confident that our first step to our vision has been achieved.

Combining Senses

Simulated Reality experiences are created by combining and stimulating all the senses. The Charter Members of the SRA are: visual imagery – KDX/Dimenco, sound – Auro Technologies and interaction – Ultrahaptics. Auro Technologies’ Wilfried Van Baelen, Auro-3D’s Inventor and Chairman declares “George Lucas famously stated that sound is 50% of the movie experience. Subconsciously, sound is becoming even more critical in VR/AR and Simulated Reality”.

Simulated Reality Alliance

The Simulated Reality Alliance will be officially presented at CES 2018 during a launch event, scheduled on Wednesday January 10th at 3 PM in booth #35205, Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall. During this event several strategically aligned companies will support this initiative along with KDX, Dimenco, Auro Technologies and Ultrahaptics. This event is hosted by Ms. Xu Shu, CEO of KDX, who explains, “At this year’s CES, KDX just announced 3D+ strategy, which combines the world leading 3D display technology of KDX with depth sensing and interactivity to build the fundamental platform of SR. Combining technologies, sharing experiences and leading in innovation is what the Simulated Reality Alliance (SRA) represents. The Simulated Reality future will be shaped by connecting and partnering with industry leaders who contribute to and endorse the goals of the SRA.”

About KDX

Established in August 2001, Kangdexin Composite Material Group (KDX) is a material technology firm mainly engaged in development, production and sale of high polymer materials. KDX, listed (stock code: 002450) in Shenzhen small and medium-sized enterprise stock market in July 2010, involves three major material fields -Laminating Film material, photoelectric material and carbon material, and maintains a leading position in the global competition.
Through continual strategic upgrades, market extension and building business ecology, KDX has developed into an international enterprise group that sets up three core material platforms (Laminating Film material, photoelectric material and carbon material) and three business ecology platforms (emerging smart display, internet applications and new energy vehicles), and forms a “dual engine” strategic pattern in which the platforms of these two kinds reinforc each other. KDX with a market value of over 80 billion owns four major business clusters, over 30 subsidiary companies, 9 R&D centers in 8 countries and regions, and a global marketing network across over 80 countries and regions.
