Witsview said that prices of LCD panels for smartphones have hit new highs because of high demand for lower end smartphones and the analysts said that prices are up to record levels, with 4″ WVGA and 4.5″ FWVGA registering massive price increases of over 50%, respectively. Further, 5″ FWVGA have gone up because of shortages of HD panels. There has even been an impact on panels with feature phones rising above $1.50 in September.
New capacity coming on stream from BOE and CEC-Panda will mean a big easing in supply by Q1 2017, which will mean a sharp fall in pricing.
