The new CEO of Samsung Display, Kwon Oh-hyun (Samsung Electronics CEO Joins SDC), is already making changes. According to Business Korea, SDC will sell some of its G7 LCD production line at the Tangjeong plant and convert existing LCD lines to produce flexible OLEDs. A KRW3 trillion ($2.6 billion) investment will be made by the end of 2017, in addition to the KRW2 trillion ($1.7 billion) already confirmed.
Converting the G7 line will not affect SDC’s total LCD production capacity, said Business Korea. This is because the firm plans to increase capacity at its Suzhou plant in China, where costs are lower.
