Over a year ago, the IOC said that it did not plan to support UltraHD broadcasts during this summer’s Olympic Games (IOC Has ‘No Plans’ for UltraHD in Rio), as broadcasters had not shown interest. Now, shortly before the event is due to start, NBC has said that it will make UltraHD content from the Games available to some carriers – in HDR and with Dolby Atmos sound, too. The broadcaster will cover the opening and closing ceremonies and swimming, track & field, basketball, men’s football final and judo competitions. It will be broadcast with a 24-hour delay, using NHK’s 8k stream.
