LG Display has commenced mass production of a new 27-inch OLED gaming monitor panel that incorporates the company’s fourth-generation OLED technology. The panel uses Primary RGB Tandem technology. The South Korean display manufacturer also revealed plans to introduce a 540Hz OLED monitor panel later this year, representing what would be the highest refresh rate currently available in the market.
The 27-inch panel operates at 280Hz with peak brightness of 1,500 nits based on APL 1.5 percent. The Primary RGB Tandem technology stacks the three primary colors, red, green, and blue, into four separate layers, a configuration LG Display describes as previously unseen in the industry.
Color reproduction reaches 99.5% accuracy, positioning the panel for professional applications including color grading and film production. The display maintains a response time of 0.03 milliseconds, significantly faster than LCD displays which typically range up to 1.0 milliseconds.
To address screen glare issues, LG Display have a specialized film and enhanced internal panel structures that block 99% of internal and external light reflections. The company states this maintains picture quality in environments up to 500 lux, equivalent to typical daytime living room lighting conditions.
The panel has received certification from UL Solutions and Intertek for 100% Color Fidelity, Perfect Color, and Perfect Black standards. The 540Hz variant meets VESA’s ClearMR 21,000 standard, representing the highest tier of the Clear Motion Ratio specification for motion clarity.
LG Display plans to begin mass production of the 540Hz gaming OLED panel in the second half of 2025, following completion of launch trials with major global display manufacturers.
The company has also developed Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology that enables ultra-high refresh rate modes up to 720Hz, allowing users to select refresh rates based on content requirements.
