2024 Was a Rebound Year for Korea’s Display Industry

According to the Korea Display Industry Association (KDIA), Korea’s display panel revenue in 2024 rose to $44.2 billion, a 13.3% increase over 2023. The results follow a decline in 2023 revenue with global inflation pressures and weakened demand in key sectors. The 2024 performance is attributed primarily to the integration of OLED panels into high-demand consumer electronics.

Korea’s global display market share in 2024 stood at 33.1%, a slight decrease from 33.2% in 2023. However, Korea retained a dominant position in the OLED segment, holding a 67.2% share of the global OLED market (approximately $36.3 billion of the $54 billion global OLED market), despite the increasing volume output from Chinese competitors. The global display market is projected to grow 4.6% to $139.3 billion in 2025, driven by increased demand for premium OLED (e.g., LTPO), AI proliferation in IT and automotive sectors, and new form factors.

While the LCD market grew by 6.3% to $79.2 billion, Korea’s share declined slightly to 10%, impacted by strategic business shifts away from low-margin products. Korean firms continue to divest from large-scale LCD manufacturing, including the sale of TV-use 8th-generation fabs.

In 2024, Korea improved on its OLED materials ecosystem with Red emissive layer share at 25%, Green at 70%, and Blue at 59%. The gains reflect successful partnerships between Korean materials companies and major Chinese panel manufacturers, as well as increased production of rigid OLED smartphones.
