LTPS LCD Gains 30% Market Share in Automotive Display

Automotive display has witnessed a significant shift as LTPS LCD technology surpasses 30% market share in the second quarter of 2024, according to Omdia’. This growth is driven by the increasing adoption of LTPS LCD in head-up displays (HUD) and room mirror (smart or digital rearview mirrors) applications, outpacing other technologies such as AMOLED, a-Si LCD, and Oxide LCD.

While LTPS LCD demand in 2023 was primarily driven by in-cell touch center stack displays, the first half of 2024 saw a pivot towards HUDs and room mirror displays. These applications benefit from LTPS LCD’s high resolution, enhanced brightness, improved in-cell touch integration, and slimmer borders, making it the preferred technology for automakers, according Omdia.

Omdia says LTPS LCD shipments rose to 30% of the total market share in Q2 2024, up from 28% in Q1, with projections reaching 33% by year-end. Despite AMOLED’s dominance in the smartphone market, it holds a comparatively smaller share in the automotive sector.
