Creal and Zeiss Partner on Light Field Display Eye Diagnostic Platform

Creal and Zeiss have entered into a licensing agreement to collaborate on developing a digital vision care platform aimed at modernizing eye diagnostics. The partnership will use Creal’s light field display technology to create devices that can digitally replicate real-world vision tests, moving away from traditional manual and lens-based methods.

Currently, many refraction tests rely on century-old techniques that are time-consuming and cumbersome for both patients and practitioners. The companies claim that with myopia on the rise globally, projected to affect 50% of the population by 2050, the demand for more efficient and accurate diagnostic tools is growing. Creal and Zeiss aim to address this need by digitizing the process.

The proposed system will allow patients to view digitally generated images through eyepieces, where objects are displayed at different focal distances. This method replaces the traditional practice of switching between lenses to test vision. The technology is based on Creal’s light field display, which uses RGB light sources and an optical system to project images at varying distances with high clarity.
