In the first quarter of 2024, OLED smartphones experienced significant growth, with units sold increasing by 50% compared to the same period last year, while revenue from these sales rose by 3%. This trend is expected to continue throughout the first half of 2024, with projected increases of 43% in units and 7% in revenue, according to a research update by DSCC.
Looking ahead to the full year of 2024, OLED smartphone sales are anticipated to grow by 21% in units and 3% in revenue. This growth is attributed to lower average selling prices (ASPs) of panels and an improving but cautious economic environment. The stabilization of inflation and strong market momentum, driven by advancements in AI and new smartphone models from major brands like Samsung and Apple, are key factors fueling this growth, based on DSCC’s analysis
In terms of market share, Apple is expected to lead with 29% of unit sales and 50% of smartphone device revenue in 2024. However, this is a slight decrease from 2023 due to gains by competitors such as Honor, Huawei, Oppo, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Samsung is also expected to see a substantial increase in its market share, with a 49% year-over-year rise in unit sales.
