King Jim is a Japanese company, which has recently announced an 8″ notebook with a full-size keyboard.
Due to be released on the 12th February, the Portabook XMC10 features a keyboard equivalent in size to that used on a 12″ notebook. However, it can be split down the middle and rotated 90° to a ‘portrait’ style, for storage.
The rotation mechanism of the keyboard is not exposed, and supports up to 20,000 splits. Keys have a 1.5mm travel distance, and can be pressed firmly, due to the 1.2mm-thick aluminium frame.
The notebook features a trackpad and physical left/right mouse buttons. However, the trackpad is covered when the keyboard is in storage mode.
Display resolution is 1280 x 720. The notebook’s 2.4GHz Intel Atom processor runs Windows 10, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. HDMI, VGA and USB ports are featured, with a micro-USB port for charging. King Jim says that the notebook can be fully charged in three hours, and will run for five hours on battery.
Price will be ¥82,800 ($685) ex VAT.
