Panasonic Beats Competition With UHD Blu-ray Player

The design is reminiscent of a 90s VHS player!Panasonic has shown off the world’s first UltraHD Blu-ray player at the Ceatec electronics show in Japan.

Known as the DMR-UBZ1, the player will be launched in Japan on the 15th November, for about ¥380,000 ($3,165) ex VAT. For the price, owners will be able to use the player’s 3TB hard drive, and be able to view HDR content – with a compatible display, of course.

Initially, Panasonic will only produce 500 of these players per month.

Also at Ceatec, Panasonic has shown some new, thicker HDMI cables, which are designed to transmit UltraHD content at 60fps; they can transfer data at speeds up to 18Gbps.
