VIA Technologies has conducted a worldwide survey on the uses of Android as an embedded platform. 93% of the roughly 250 respondents were already or were considering its use, with the majority (28%) looking at industrial automation. Infotainment (20%) and digital signage (12%) were also popular potential uses – notably all visual applications. A touch screen (26%) and fast time to market (25%) were seen as the top benefits, while lack of I/O support (23%), internal expertise (21%) and development tools (19%) were the top challenges.
