Nvidia says it will wind down its Icera modem operations in the second quarter of fiscal 2016 and that the company is open to a sale of the technology or operations.
Nvidia acquired Icera in 2011 as part of a plan to engage in the smartphone revolution but since then, Nvidia has refocused its strategy to focus on high-growth opportunities in gaming, automotive and cloud computing applications such as deep learning. The company said that the Icera 4G LTE modem will meet its needs for the next year or more but going forward, it expects to partner with third-party modem suppliers rather than developing its own.
