LG Display (LGD) is reported to be in talks with its affiliate, Global OLED Technology (GOT), in the US to acquire a 100% stake in the business. The move would enable LGD to strengthen its OLED patent portfolio as demand for premium OLED TVs gathers momentum.
Earlier this year it was reported that LGD was teaming up with major TV manufacturers in Japan and China to create an OLED TV alliance to drive adoption of OLED technology (LG Display Plans OLED Alliance). However, this week the company also admitted that it was currently unable to keep pace with demand (LG Cannot Meet OLED TV Demand).
GOT was co-founded in 2009 LGD, LG Electronics, Idemitsu Kosan of Japan and LG Chem with stakes of 33%, 32.7%, 32.3% and 2% respectively.
