Taiwan’s main notebook ODMs, Compal, Wistron and Inventec reported month on month declines in sales in January.
Compal’s January sales were down 17.1% sequentially to NT$68.7 billion ($2.2 billion), though this was 28.5% higher year on year. The company shipped 3.1 million notebooks last month, down from the four million units shipped in December. Compal said it expects shipments to fall 15-20% in Q1 from Q4, though smartphone and tablet shipments are likely to stay flat.
Wistron saw sales fall 18.3% month on month to NT$49.3 billion ($1.5 billion), though January’s result represented a 26.4% YoY improvement. Notebook shipments dropped 15% sequentially to 1.7 million units and the company said it expects a further 15% drop in February and for the whole of Q1.
Inventec reported an 18.7% MoM and 29.5% YoY drop in sales for the month to NT$29.8 billion ($949.7 million), as its notebook shipments fell 21.4% to 1.1 million units from 1.4 million in December.
