Fudzilla claims that Nvidia will release a successor to the Shield tablet this year, powered by its new X1 processor (which follows 2013’s K1). Expected to be announced in March, the tablet will have an 8″ display (the same as the original Shield) and is likely to run Android 5.0. The Tegra X1 is said to use an octa-core 64-bit ARM CPU (four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 cores), with a 256-core Maxwell GPU.

Shortly after we wrote this piece, Nvida sent out invitations to an event on 3rd March (hopefully at MWC – Man. Ed.), where it will unveil a product that will ‘‘redefine the future of gaming’ and has been in development for five years. It may well be referring to the next Shield tablet. (TA)
