Although 3D is largely seen as dead-in-the-water, there does appear to still be some life in the format. In February, the 27th annual Stereoscopic Displays and Applications (SD&A) conference highlighted works by 30 3D film makers, and Best of Show awards have now been presented. ‘Best of Show Live Action’ went to Amongst, from Chisa Hidaka and Bejamin Harley. Björn Sommer and Niklas Biere’s Chlamydomonas reinhardtii 3D – From Biological Cells to Biofuels won the ‘Best of Show – Animation’ category (and, jokingly, was referred to as ‘Best of Show – Worst Name’).
