DSCC reported its preliminary Q4 data for AMOLED smartphone panels which were firm, despite the strong annual growth in the preceding quarters. The year was a good one for the category and sales were up for the year in revenue. Procurement is expected to reach 634 million AMOLEDs (up 27%) and with a 22% boost, revenue for smarlphones is expected to reach $397 billion. In Q4 180 million panels were sold and smartphone revenues were $110 billion.
The firm also looked at smartphone brands and said that it expects Apple to have the top five models, up from four in 2020. 5G has also gone past pre-5G to be down to nearly 30% for the year (there’s a chart on the blog). 120Hz panels went from 11% in 2020 to 34% in 2021.
