LGD Prepares Plastic OLED and OLED TV Carefully

LG Display (LGD) is the first AMLCD maker to detail financial results each quarter so they are a bellwether for the industry. Performance in Q2’12 showed marked improvement over Q1 but long-term trends persist. Those trends indicate AMLCD business conditions will continue deteriorating, so it is time to get moving. LGD managers described plans for converting existing lines to make OLED on plastic or OLED TV panels next year. They will move carefully, however. The initial process lines will have modest capacities and the conversions will proceed in stages.
