At Qualcomm’s quarterly conference call for investors on July 18, Chairman/CEO Paul Jacobs said, “With respect to QMT, we’re now focusing on licensing our next-generation mirasol display technology and will directly commercialize only certain mirasol products. We believe that this strategy will better align our updated roadmap with the addressable opportunities.”
Although the comments made during the conference call about Qualcomm’s chip business were fairly widely reported, it seems that only the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Mike Freeman zeroed in on what may well be mirasol’s death knell, although Qualcomm tried to give the decision a less mortal spin. A few people picked up Freeman’s story, but it was not widely reported. Could it be that few people outside of Qualcomm and Qualcomm MEMS Technologies (QMT) really cared?
